The Life Expectancy and Specs of Portable Yanmar Generators

Yanmar is a Japanese company that designs and manufactures diesel engines, including diesel generators. In the 1930s, in the early days of a diesel engine that was becoming reliable and effective, Yanmar was the first to develop a compact diesel engine. This led to increased opportunities and situations where diesel engines could be put to use, including in marine vessels and, eventually, the modern, portable generator. Nowadays, the company has reached global success and has dealers and contacts everywhere, like our very own Yanmar Generators in Australia.

  1. The Life Expectancy and Specs of Portable Yanmar Generators Yanmar is a Japanese company that designs and manufactures diesel engines, including diesel generators.

  2. Diesel engines have come a long way since the 30s. Generators commonly last for at least 15,000 hours of operation and can last up to 50,000 hours of operation, depending on maintenance and care. That means if you ran a generator constantly during office hours, it would last at least for 7 years and up to 24 years (with proper care and maintenance). Diesel engines in particular run at a cooler temperature than petrol ones, which is better for the generator’s longevity. Yanmar offers several series of open-framed generators, which make maintenance simpler because of easy access to the generator’s components. And with no spark plugs on Yanmar diesel generators, there are fewer components that can break and cause mischief. A good tip for generators is to break them in before using them by running them for an hour or so and draining and replacing their oil. Doing this a couple of times will clean their systems out and ensure any metal particulates that are left over from the machining process are cleared out. It also makes sure that the pistons and rings wear grooves into the chamber walls that can accommodate them, which can also produce minuscule metal shavings that need to be removed with the drained oil. Yanmar offers portable generators for all your needs, such as their 6.5kva generator which can come as a standalone generator or in a four-in-one workstation. Other than the generator, a four-in-one workstation also includes a welder, a battery charger, and a compressor. The founder of Yanmar came from a farming family and the company developed Japan’s first powered rice huller, so they know how to manage the balance between keeping their devices small and effective. Generators that are ‘mine spec’ are designed to withstand the ordeals of a mining site and remain highly effective. Yanmar generators are tough enough to match those needs. The company has paved the way for compact diesel engines and their uses in many fields, such as power generation with generators and for use to power agricultural and construction machines, marine uses from shipping to pleasure boats, as well as maintaining their roots as a gas engine company through innovation in gas heat pumps and gas-powered (natural gas and LPG) generators. The founder of Yanmar was the first non-German to receive the Diesel Gold Medal from the German Inventors Association. Prior to that, all recipients were German as the technology was invented there. Diesel engines differ from petrol ones because they combust the air only through air pressure, getting the pressure levels high enough that the air and fuel mixture spontaneously combusts. This means they usually have to be built more ruggedly and larger, to withstand the extra forces of the air pressure. Without the innovation of those at companies such as Yanmar who made the engine smaller without sacrificing functionality, the more efficient diesel engine would not have reached its full potential.

  3. Planning ● ● ● Yanmar generators are mostly open-framed. Yanmar engines are diesel engines. Yanmar’s founder started out fixing old gas engines — their core business at one time was selling rebuilt gas engines. Yanmar made Japan’s first powered rice huller. Yanmar designed the world’s first compact diesel engine in the 30s. The founder of Yanmar was the first non-German to receive the Diesel Gold Medal from the German Inventors’ Association (diesel engines were invented in Germany). Now have a range of diesel, natural gas, and LP generators sold throughout the world. ● ● ● ●
