RESUME. What is a resume? A summary sheet of your experiences and accomplishments. Your resume helps potential employers decide if they would like to hire you. A resume is a great way to show off your knowledge, education, experience and talents.

  2. What is a resume? A summary sheet of your experiences and accomplishments. Your resume helps potential employers decide if they would like to hire you.

  3. A resume is a great way to show off your knowledge, education, experience and talents. It is perfectly okay to “brag” about yourself on your resume!

  4. But what if I don’t have any real work experience?

  5. Don’t worry – experience comes from many different places. Think hard: you’ll find something to help you stand out! Volunteer Work Clubs Classes Responsibilities at home Sports

STEP 1: Brainstorm Using the Resume Worksheet your Advisement Teacher will give you, brainstorm a list of experiences/accomplishments: • Paid or unpaid jobs (*Don’t forget babysitting, mowing the grass, etc.) • Volunteer experiences • Clubs • Sports • Extra-curricular Activities • Any special classes you are proud of • Awards or recognitions (*Don’t forget Student of the Week, Golden Warrior Awards, etc.) No matter where I was or what I was doing (even in the snow) I Walked like a Warrior (2013-2014)

STEP 2: Get specific For each item you’ve listed, briefly describe what you did and the date(s) Jobs: • Lawn Maintenance Hired to cut grass and trim hedges for several neighbors (2011-2014) • Babysitting Cared for three children after school each day (2010-2011) Awards: • Wando High School Golden Warrior Award Recipient Recognized by my teachers for oo“Walking the Warrior Way” oo(November 2012& May 2013) EXAMPLE

  8. Once you’ve organized your accomplishments and credentials, it’s time to create your resume. Format is important: • One inch margins • Times New Roman size 12 font • One page max • Clear headings • Clear bullet points • Spelling • Grammar
