  1. Communication Arts-DAY 5 Bell Ringer: Please get your assigned computers. Then complete a Type 1in your notebooks: Reflect on the poem “Birdfoot’sGrampa”. We debated on whether or not he was a hero on Friday. Think about everyday actions that could be considered heroic. Example: Picking up litter at Founder’s Field. Then answer these questions: How might this everyday action be heroic? How does it impact other people? Could it influence the way people act? (4 minutes)

  2. Learning Goal and Essential Question • Learning Goal: Analyze how heroes interact with or impact others and their surroundings in literature and real life. • Essential Question: Can heroes impact the way people react or act?

  3. No One’s Hero Looking back I have done much in this life • I was a child, a mother, and a wife • Yet…I am no one’s hero • As a child I always tried to be helpful • A little mischievous but wasn’t much trouble • Yet…I am no one’s hero

No One’s Hero • As a mother I read stories, played games, and sang songs • Baked cookies, healed wounds, and righted the wrongs • Yet…I am no one’s hero • As a wife I did the laundry, cooked meals, and cleaned house • Took care of the kids, paid bills, tried to be a good spouse • Yet…I am no one’s hero • I encouraged triumph, success, glory and fame • Dealt with pain, sorrow, guilt and shame • Yet…I am no one’s hero

No One’s Hero • I have been looked to for security, for guidance in growth • I have loved unconditionally, for that is my oath • Yet…I am no one’s hero • I have wrapped my arms around to shield from the outside • In times of turmoil, I have been right beside • Yet…I am no one’s hero • I have concluded, after giving it much thought • For everyone, a hero is sought • Yet…I am no one’s hero

  6. Who’s a hero? How do I act? Activity on Edmodo. • Directions: • 1. Teacher reads poem. • 2. Students will complete assignment on edmodo which contains • -Is the person of this poem a hero? Why or why not? Use and cite from the text. • -What kind of impact might this person have had on other people? • -Compare the Birdfoot’sGrampa and No ones hero on a venndiagram table. Show how they are similar and different with their impact on people. • 3. How does the author communicate his/her thoughts compared to the authors of Man in the Water and The Hero’s Test? • Once done submit as a group on edmodo. Make sure you use the proper heading and include all names. • We will discuss.

  7. Exit Ticket • Poll on Edmodo. • Answer the question, Who could have an impact on how people act?

  8. Homework • Homework: Think of a hero you would write about and reflect on the impact this hero has had on you personally and the society around you. 1 paragraph
