Tamils were in government when queen was in control of country Queen gave independence and Sinhalese are in power of Tamils Tamils are now discriminated against They are kept in camps behind fences and massacred by Sinhalese groups Group called Tamil Tigers were established to fight for the fair treatment of the Tamils and individual land for both ethnic groups- looking for land in northern and eastern parts. These two groups have been "fighting" for many years The issue has lasted a very long time- since 1948 when queen gave independence to Sri Lanka Today there is urgent need for justice of the Tamils who were damaged and affected by the civil war. A civil war was fought between Sinhalese and Tamils (started 1983)- Sinhalese were looking to end the Tamil Tigers and succeeded with the end of the war in 2009. How do I know it? Class lessons with teacher Reaserach conducted from news articles and websites What do I need to know? Positive outcomes for any party More of the history of issue What is happening today Relation to beatitudes and commandments Relation to catholic teachings, human rights. Relation to their buddhists teachings (not killing etc.) What kinds of resources might help? Newspaper articles and recent documents/ reports on news Internet mostly (online newpapers), books might help however not recent enough Where do I find them? Internet Library Intranet Library How do I know the information is valid and who is responsible for it? Is it well known ? Do they know what they are talking about ? Is the information similar to other websites? Is the magazine, newspaper or program trusted or viewed a lot Always look for authors name and job title as this might help with trust and reliability issues What other information is there? Information  from people involved (interviews etc.)

  14. Student MF Dammit. EDIT: I had everything typed up, and moodle had to re-sign me in. Rather than re-type it, heres a summary of what I had, I'll explain if I can. It's late, have to change later. Summing up: Tamils, Sinhalese, Conflict, 25 years, lots of people dead HR abuses - both sides Most info I know from Fr Pan, and my teacher. Some material read on own in class Evidence to explain my answer for focus question is still needed.
