  3. A NOUN IS A WORD THAT NAMES A PERSON, PLACE, THING, OR IDEA.

  4. A common noun is a general name for a person, place, thing, or idea. • They are generally not capitalized.

  5. A proper noun is a specific name for a person, place, thing, or idea. • They are generally capitalized.

  6. A concrete noun names a thing that can be seen, heard, smelled, touched, or tasted.

  7. An abstract noun names an idea, feeling, quantity, or characteristic.

  8. A collective noun is a word that names a group of people or things.
