Introduction • Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) is one of the most important coniferous species in Poland, which covers 68 % of the total forest area and serves as a main wood resource for industry • Microsatellites are very powerful genetic markers to to better understand the spatial distribution of gene resourcesof native Scots pine provenances in Poland 2/10

WP 5.4 objectives • Dynamics of the genetic diversity assessed with adaptive and neutral genetic markers in forestry • Statistical analysis of Scots pine microsatellite markers • Use of microsatellite data to infer patterns of contemporary gene movements in various tree species • General use of microsatellites and other DNA markers in forest science and forestry 3/10

  9. WP 5.4 Deliverables • Proceedings “Microsatellite analysis in Scots pine“ are in preparation to be published and send to any participant of the meeting and Polish National Libraries 9/10

  10. WP 5.4 Milestones • The Workshop gave an opportunity to exchange scientific knowledge about the newest methods applied in forest genetics • Important aspects of molecular biology in forest tree species were discussed with special focus on accurateness of marker chosen for Scots pine microsatellite study and statistical methods of calculation used • International cooperation between participants have started (e.g. preparation of EU Projects: HYPE and Evoltree) 10/10
