  2. The Civil War Amendments (the 13th, 14th & 15th) 13th Amendment (1865) ~ Abolished slavery in the US

  3. 14th Amendment (1868) ~ Grants citizenship to anyone born in the US and guarantees all citizens “equal protection of the laws”.

  4. 15th Amendment (1870) ~ The right to vote cannot be denied based on a person’s race--granted suffrage to African-American men

  5. 16th amendment (1913) ~ Allowed the federal government to levy (collect) income taxes

  6. 19th Amendment (1920) ~ Suffrage for women

  7. 22nd Amendment (1951) ~ limits the president to two consecutive terms in office

  8. 24th Amendment (1964) ~ Abolished poll taxes

  9. 26th Amendment (1971) ~ Suffrage for 18 year olds Since so many 18 year olds were fighting in Vietnam, the voting age was lowered to 18.
