  1. Math Project Term 1 SAT & Sequences By: Obeid Tahnon Grade: 12-02

  2. Task 1: Brief Introduction About SAT Test in ATHS • What is the SAT exam? The SAT is a globally recognized college admission test that lets you show colleges what you know and how well you can apply that knowledge. • What is the target score for ATHS students?550 for AE and ICT students600 for ES students

  3. How the SAT test is scored? Students earn 1 point for each correct answer, lose 1/4 point for each incorrect answer (except on the student-produced response math questions), and neither lose nor gain points for each omitted answer. The raw score is then converted into a scaled score of 200 to 800 scale. The conversion process allows scorers to correct for minor variations in the difficulty of different test so that the same level of ability should lead to the same scaled score on any test.

  4. 10 tips to score more in SAT • Build your own vocabulary list using past tests. • For Critical Reading passage based questions, experiment with different strategies. • Know your special triangles. • Never leave any multiple choice questions blank. • Read, read,---especially topics that you don’t find particularly interesting. • If you're stuck on a math problem, start writing. • In your essay, consider the opposing point of view. • Always show your work. • Use official tests to practice with. • Create a collection of mature sounding words and phrases to incorporate into your essay.

  5. What is the minimum number of correct answers you need in each section to reach the target? • About 35 questions with no more than 2 wrong answers for AE and ICT students • About 42 questions with no more than 2 wrong answers for ES students

  6. Task 2: Example of SAT Test Questions • Here are 20 real SAT Test questions about different kind of mathematics topics including Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Probability and Statistics. 7. Task 3: Questions About Sequences • Giventhesequence:11, 7, 3, -1, … • 1. Determinethetype of sequence? • Arithmetic sequence • 2. Findthenextthreeterms of the sequence. • d = 7-11 = 3-7 = -1-3 = -4  • -5 , -9 , -13 • 3. Writeaformulaforthe sequence. • an= a1+ (n-1) d • an= 7 + 4n • 4. Inyour own language write aboutthistypeof sequences. • Sequence of numbers where each term after the first is found by adding or subtracting , called the common difference.

  8. Given  the  sequence: 5, 25, 125, 625, … 1. Determine the type of sequence? Geometric sequence 2. Find the next three terms of the sequence. r = 25/5 = 125/25 = 625/125 = 5  3125 , 15625 , 78125 3. Write a formula for the sequence. an = a1 × r n-1 an = 5× 5 n-1 4. In your own language write about this type of sequences. Sequence of numbers where each term after the first is found by multiplying , called the common ratio.

  9. Given the sequence: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, … 1. Determine  the  type  of  sequence? Fibonacci number 2. Find the next three terms of the sequence. 2 + 3 = 5 , 3 + 5 = 8 , 5 + 8 = 13 5 , 8 , 13 3. Write a formula for the sequence. F n = F n-1 + F n-2 4. In your own language write about this type of sequences. The Fibonacci number is one of those math sequences that follow simple rules. The one ruling the Fibonacci sequence is that each subsequent number is the sum of the previous two.
