  2. What is a Found Poem? • words & phrases selected & rearranged from another text • choose language that is meaningful or interesting • organize language in a pleasing way

  3. How To Create a Found Poem

  4. 1. Collect Words & Phrases  • As groups present poems, select 5-10 words & phrases per poem • Interesting … moving… meaningful.. Memorable … powerful • Highlight, underline or box them

  5. 2. Select Additional Language • Found poems  only collected words • Once you gather collection, review them & collect additional language

  6. 3. Compose a Poem  • Arrange words & phrases to create a poem • Write all of words/phrases on slips of paper (or cut poem apart) • rearrange until satisfied with poem

  7. Create a rhythm you like • space words out • allruntogether • place each word alone • shape entire poem so it’s wide, TALL, or shaped like an object

  8. Other Rules • No adding your own words • not even articles or prepositions • Okay to repeat words/phrases as often as you like • Don’t need to use all words/phrases collected

  9. 4. Poetry Cafe • We will hold a Poetry Café to read poems aloud to the class  • And maybe have treats?????
