  8. Methods cont. • Tailoring – designing a program that is adapted to the specific routines, lifestyle, abilities, and unique circumstances of an individual • Material Reinforcement – rewarding a behavior with a tangible object (ex. Stop smoking for a week, get…)

  9. Methods cont. • Social Reinforcement – A behavior is rewarded by someone else with anything from acknowledgement to praise to a “pat on the back” to a smile

  10. Methods cont. • Self-Contracting – “If I…, then I…” AND/OR “If I don’t…, then I won’t…” • What’s the difference between this and Material Reinforcement? • This and self-monitoring?
