  3. Why Do You Need To Know This? • Rates are important because they are used to compare quantities with different units. • Rates can be used in a variety of ways and can be found many places in the real world.

  4. Vocabulary • Rate—Ratio that compares quantities with different kinds of units. • Unit Rate—Rate with a denominator of 1.

  5. Notes • To find unit rate, you divide by the denominator.

  6. Find each unit rate. Round to the nearest hundredth if necessary. • 300 tickets in 6 days • 220 miles in 8 gallons • 228 feet in 24 seconds • 440 miles in 8 hours

  7. How Much Does It Cost? • Find the unit price per orange if it costs $2 for 6 oranges. • Find the unit price per can if it costs $3 for 6 cans of soda.
