Course Options • BTEC National Diploma in health & Social Care • BTEC National Diploma in Health & Social Care (Social Care) • BTEC National Diploma Health & Social Care (Health Studies) • BTEC National Diploma Health & Social Care (Health Sciences) • BTEC National Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning & Development. (Previously Early Years)

  3. Similarities • All of the courses are equivalent to 3 A’ levels • All courses include core units and specialist units • All courses allow learners to gain a significant amount of work experience in a variety of settings • There is overlap across the qualifications with some core units. E.g. Communication and Equality, Diversity & Rights.

  4. Differences between the qualifications • Slight differences in Core units. E.g. BTEC National Diploma In Health & Social Care (Social Care) incorporates more units related to Social Care. • Health includes more Health related units and Health Sciences more science related units. • The BTEC National Diploma in CCLD has early Years related units.

  5. Work Experience 1 • The amount of work experience each learner accumulates will depend upon the units that the institution offers. • For Health & Social Care Unit 6 (Core unit) incorporates 100 hours of work experience. If Unit 44 is chosen this adds a further 200 hours. • All our Health & Social Care learners have 1 day per week allocated to work experience across the 2 years, in addition to a 2 week block placement and a 1 week residential placement for the majority of learners.

  6. Work Experience 2 • The majority of Health & Social care learners achieve far more than the required 300 hours experience across a variety of client groups. • All Learners on the Children’s Care Learning & Development (Early Years) Course achieve the same amount of units as Health & Social care • All learners have at least 800 hours work experience across the different age ranges. • All learners are assessed for competence within the work place

  7. Progression onto the National Diploma • The entrance qualification is 4/5 A-C GCSE’s or it’s equivalence • Some learners progress from a BTEC First Diploma or GNVQ (OCR) onto the National Diploma • Some learners who do not achieve at school (for a variety of reasons), may start at the Introductory Diploma and then progress onto a First Diploma. All learners are encouraged to re-take English and Mathematics GCSE

  8. Terminology • A BTEC Award is equivalent to 1 A’ Level • A BTEC Certificate is equivalent to 2’ A levels • A BTEC national Diploma is equivalent to 3 a’ levels
