  1. Attributes of Jesus in the book of Luke

  2. Attributes of God As we consider the attributes of Jesus, it is important to keep in mind some of the attributes of God: • Omnipotent – all powerful. • Omnipresent – everywhere present concurrently. • Omniscient – all knowing. • Eternal – no beginning and no end.

  3. Physical Attributes of Jesus It is surprising how little we know about the physical attributes of Jesus. The images and statues that we see, supposedly of Jesus, are based on artists’ imaginations. We have almost no description of Jesus’ physical attributes. The most prominent verse with a description of Jesus is Isaiah: • Isa 53:2 … he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. I believe that the Scriptures are intentionally silent about Jesus’ physical attributes. He should be worshipped for who he is and what he did, not for his physical attributes. People have a propensity to worship images and idols.

  4. Physical Attributes of Jesus • Male – Luke 1:31: And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, • Born of a virgin - Luke 1:31, 35: The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God • Son of David – Luke 3:23: And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli…which was the son of David, 32 Which was the son of Jesse… which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.

  5. Attributes of Jesus Full of the Holy Ghost– 4:1: And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness • Luke 4:18: The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; Knowledgeable of the Scriptures– Luke 4:4: And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone. • Luke 4:8: And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve • Luke 4:12; And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God Prophet – Luke 4:24: And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country Power over evil spirits– Luke 4:36: And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out

  6. Attributes of Jesus (continued) Knows men’s hearts – Luke 5:21: And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone? Ps 32:5; Isa 43:25; 22 But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts? Knew where the fish were – Luke 5:4: he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. John 21:6; 5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. 6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. 7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. Power over nature – Luke 8:24: Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm. Power to forgive sins - Luke 5:20: And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.
