  7. Introduction • Was very likely written by John Mark (cousin of Barnabas who deserted Paul on first journey). • Is the shortest gospel in length. • Was probably the first written (AD 55-70). • Is 93% duplicated in other gospels (only 7% unique material).

  8. Introduction—Cont’d • Was written for Romans. • Explains Jewish customs. • Uses Latin expressions. • Quotes O.T. only three times. • Presents Jesus as a conqueror—of storms, demons, disease, and death.

  12. Miracles • Mark records over half of Jesus’ miracles. • He records Jesus’ power: • Over nature • Over disease • Over death We can see the laws of nature suspended.

  13. Parables • Mark presents few of Jesus’ “formal parables.” • He gives us more intimate insights into other discussions. We can listen to the greatest teachings the world has ever heard.

  14. Other encounters • Mark gives over 20 different reactions to Jesus. • We can imagine what it would be like to be there as an observer—or as one who spoke with Jesus. These are wonderful opportunities to see the qualities of our Lord at work in His life.
