This study examines the properties of ferrous materials in magnetic applications, focusing on air gaps in Varian magnets. Two configurations are analyzed: one with a samarium-cobalt pole and the other with a neodymium pole, both paired with Alnico materials. The estimated clamp force for each unit is approximately 35 lb. Additionally, the leakage flux levels are measured, revealing values of less than 0.005T (5 Gauss) above the pole surface and under 0.015T (15 Gauss) below, measured at 1 inch away from the unit. This study contributes critical insights for magnetic system designs.
