Clinical Manifestations Associated with LUNG ABSCESS The following clinical manifestations result from the pathophysiologic mechanisms caused (or activated) by Alveolar Consolidation, and when the abscess is draining, by Excessive Bronchial Secretions—the major anatomic alterations of the lungs associated with chronic bronchitis

  2. Commonly affected lung segments • Right upper lobe posterior segment • Left upper lobe • Right and left lower lobe superior segment

  3. Symptoms • Cough • Copious foul smelling expectoration • Hemoptysis • Fever • Chest pain • Dyspnoea

  4. Clinical Data Obtained at the Patient’s Bedside Vital signs • Increased respiratory rate • Increased heart rate, cardiac output, blood pressure • Febrile

  5. General physical examination • Clubbing • Cyanosis
