On the third afternoon of our science camp, we conducted an exciting lab experiment involving catalase enzymes in potatoes. We compared raw and boiled potato chunks dropped into hydrogen peroxide. The raw potatoes produced lots of bubbles, while the boiled ones showed no reaction, leading us to conclude that boiling denatured the enzymes responsible for this reaction. Later, we had an exhilarating time splashing around in the Loeb Fountain. Huge thanks to our supportive parents, dedicated teachers, and fellow campers for making this experience memorable!

Science Scape 2013! Day three’s afternoon: Enzyme experiments and Fountain run!! By: Christina, Joyful, Taylor, and, Danielle
Lab 8: Potato Catalase Enzyme Reaction • Lab to teach us about enzymes. • Dropped a raw and a boiled potato chunk into hydrogen peroxide.
Conclusion of Lab • We found that the raw potatoes reacted and bubbled with the hydrogen peroxide and the boiled ones didn’t. • We concluded that the boiling of the potatoes denatured the enzymes that caused the bubbling.
Fountain Run! • Wednesday afternoon we were able to splash and play throughout the Loeb Fountain.
Special Thanks to…. • We would like to thank our parents for letting us go to this educating camp and supporting us; our teachers making time around their summer to teach us; and our fellow counselors and campers for putting up with us for a week.
