Curriculum Night 2015-2016

Welcome to Ms. Kelley's fifth-grade classroom at St. John School! With 19 years of experience, Ms. Kelley is dedicated to providing a well-rounded education for her students. This curriculum includes math, religion, reading, writing, music, PE, Spanish, science, and social studies. The curriculum is focused on differentiated instruction to meet the needs of every child. Ms. Kelley also values parent-teacher communication and encourages involvement in their child's learning through daily planners, checking work, and utilizing the Parent Portal.

M.A. in Education from Eastern Michigan University 19 years teaching experience Eighth year at St. John School Long time parishoner I’m married and have a 2 daughters here at St. John, Julia and Mimi.

  10. Homework Let go…but be the safety net! About 50 minutes each day Nearly every day… • Accelerated Reading • Math practice • Spelling • Work not completed in class Also, the occasional long-term project Check the Parent Portal for test/assignment scores and any missing work. Aim for the Eagle Award!

Grading Policy/ Evaluations Practice Work • Homework = effort score • Skill work in class • +, ✓, - scores Evaluation Work • Skill Mastery (quizzes, tests, projects, reports, certain indicated assignments) • Percentage Scores Test Retakes • Any test with a grade lower than 80% can be retaken. • Simply have your child a Request to Retest form. • Generally re-takes can be done either before or after school on Wednesdays within 2 weeks of receiving the test back.

  17. Parent Portal 101 Different categories carry different weights All scores are averaged. Beware the skewed data! All scores read as grades (even practice work) M = missing assignment = score of 0 (check with me regarding absences) L= late assignment Missing work due to absences will read as M. Help your child follow up! My NO NAME file is usually chock full! Like Mary Poppins, I am practically perfect in every way…but practically is the key word
