Drafting Tangent Curves
This document, prepared by S. Payne, Adjunct Instructor, delves into the concept of tangents in geometry. It explains that a tangent to a circle is a straight line that touches the circle at just one point, without crossing it. The tangent forms a right angle with the radius of the circle at the point of contact. This concise explanation is ideal for students looking to grasp the fundamentals of tangent lines and their properties in relation to circles.

Tangents A tangent to a circle is a straight line which touches the circle at only one point (so it does not cross the circle- it just touches it). A tangent to a circle forms a right angle with the circle's radius, at the point of contact of the tangent. What is a Tangent to a circle? A tangent to a circle is a straight line which touches the circle at only one point (so it does not cross the circle- it just touches it). A tangent to a circle forms a right angle with the circle's radius, at the point of contact of the tangent.
