Context • In 20 years Torbay’s over 85 population is expected to double. • In 10 years Torbay’s over 65 population it is expected to increase from 36,500 to 45,000 • Ratio of working age to dependent age 2019 Torbay 1.29 (England 1.65). In 10 years: Torbay 1.09 (England 1.48) • The caring population will also be ageing! • Technology - critical to the economic wellbeing of Torbay

What is TECS in Torbay • Telecare – technology (low to complex needs) supports a person in their home & community, alerting call monitoring centre or family/friends if required. • Includes traditional (and more innovate) solutions e.g. pendant alarms and fire safety, GPS and sensors. • Provides alerts, reminders, remote monitoring and advice • Supports social care

Benefits of TECS • Choice and control - people decide how they want to receive care • Peace of mind for person and supports carers/family • personalised, predictive, proactive and preventive approaches - using remote monitoring to reduce the risk of hospital admissions, enable earlier discharges and support informal carers • Increased sense of dignity and independence • Efficiency savings– best use of the limited resource we have – transforming care to focus on complex patients

Strategic intentions • Support workforce to develop skills and understanding in the potential of technology, • Change cultural norms so people expect technology to be part of their care. • Introduce technology early so that people are prepared for future innovative TECS in care and health. • Grow the self-funding market through strength based approach – delaying and reducing the need for people to access care • Grow the use of technology to reduce the upward incline of demand on carers and think more strategically about use of that time
