Benefits of Accreditation • Helps to identify strengths and weaknesses • Stimulates quality and performance improvement opportunities • Stimulates greater accountability and transparency • within the health department • with external stakeholders • Allows better communication with board of health or governing entity

  4. Accreditation and Public Health Modernization • Accreditation was developed as a tool to improve the performance and quality of public health departments, • Foundational capabilities (PH Modernization) were developed as a part of a minimum package of public health services to describe what is needed everywhere for public health to function anywhere • The accreditation standards and measures and the foundational capabilities were both developed by the field for the field, and describe core elements of governmental public health practice. • Significant alignment between the two exist. http://www.phaboard.org/wp-content/uploads/Aligning-Accreditation-and-the-Foundational-Public-Health-Capabilities-Summer-2016.pdf
