  1. PM10 and reporting in Norway by Roar Gammelsæter, The Norwegian EPA

  2. The presentation • PM10 • Status • Source apportionment • Example of mitigation measure • The Norwegian data reporting system

  3. Number of exceedences of the PM10 24H limit value 2004-2005

  4. PM10 - Geographical distribution Rana Trondheim Lillehammer Grenland Oslo

  5. Areas where national targets for PM10 were exceeded in Oslo 2003

  6. Source apportionment: example from Oslo • Based on a combination of measurement and chemical analysis of samples. Levoglucosan has been used as a tracer for wood burning • Sample period: January-April 04, October-April 04/05 • The studies are done by NILU, financed by SFT and the Norwegian Public Roads Administration

  7. Source apportionmentExample:National highway in Oslo winter, average Based on data from NILU report OR 41/2005

  8. Example: PM2,5 at traffic site, downtown Oslo Based on data from NILU report (2005) - in press.

  9. Mitigation measure: Reduced speed limit • National highway in Oslo with commuter traffic, around 50 000 vehicles/day. • From 80 km/h (2004) to 60 km/h (2005) • Real reduction: from 77 to 67 km/h • Results: • Number of exeedences of PM10 LV reduced by more than 30% • Minor changes in PM2,5 levels

  10. The Norwegian reporting system • Key elements: • Central database • Web based reporting solution • QA/QC system • Web presentation • SFT • Sets all requirements for the reporting • Responsible for transmission of information to the Commission • The municipalities are responsible for data collection, QA and monthly reporting to the Central Database

  11. Public web site Monitoring networks Local online data Daily prognosis Are limit values met? Historical data Interactive graphs Etc. National Central Database Internal web site National and international reporting e.g. QA/QC Import/export functions Generating graphs SFT Template for extraction of data (questionnaire 2004/461/EC)
