Welcome to the Leslie/Kempke/Miller 3rd Grade Team! We aim to promote equity through excellence, fostering a growth mindset, rigorous instruction, and positive relationships. Stay updated with communication through Class Dojo, email, and planners. Homework, transportation changes, lunch with your child, birthday treats, and class parties are also discussed. Our curriculum is based on Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. We use personalized instruction and progress monitoring tools to ensure student growth. Volunteers are welcome to sign up and assist in our classrooms. Visit our website for more information.

  5. Thursday Folders *Expect Thursday folders EVERY Thursday * All graded papers will be sent home in the folder * Please check and sign the back paper of the Thursday folder and return to school the next day * School news and information will also be coming home in this folder.

  6. Homework • *Homework will come home daily in the Homework Folder. • *Homework is due when your child gets to school, the next morning, unless stated otherwise.

  7. Communication • *We use Class Dojo, email, and planners. • *Please sign the planner dailyto check homework assignments and record reading minutes. • Thank you! 

  8. Transportation • Changes in transportation home must be in writing . • In case of an emergency change please contact the front office(407-320-6850). • Please do NOT leave any messages on voice mail or Class Dojo regarding transportation!

  9. Lunch With Your Child • Parents are invited to eat lunch with their child on Thursdays. (No Siblings) • Picnic tables available outside lunchroom • Go to Front Office to sign in at your child’s scheduled lunch time (11:42) • Wait at picnic tables for your child’s class to arrive. No classmates to be included.

  10. Birthday Treats and Class Parties • Birthday treat time is during snack/lunch • Send them in with your child or leave it at the front office. • Send individual items that are the SAME, nothing that needs to be cut up by the teacher. • Avoid items with nuts, peanuts, and all tree nuts please. Class Parties: * Winter Party on Dec. 20 * End of the year in May Drop Off Parties: • Fall Drop Off • *Valentine Drop Off FYI—Siblings are not permitted to attend class parties.

  12. ELA (Reading and Language Arts) Reading • Phonemic Awareness • Phonics • Fluency • Vocabulary • Comprehension Language Arts • Spelling • English - grammar, proofreading/editing, punctuation, capitalization, word usage • Writing • Cursive Handwriting

  13. SOCIAL STUDIES • Taught weekly/integrated in ELA • Map and Globe Skills • U.S. Geography and Government • North America

  14. A web based tool to help students make real gains in Reading and Mathematics. It includes assessments which measure students’ growth and performance through personalized instruction. The Portal Parents please refer to Skyward email from Mr. White on directions to access the portal.

  15. Progress Monitoring • Our Progress Monitoring will be assessments and teacher observations. • There will be a standardized test in the spring (April) that will be aligned to Florida Standards.

  16. MATH • Emphasis on use of manipulatives and higher-level thinking skills • Consumable books • On-line resources on Go Math (Elementary) • Memorize multiplication facts 1 through10

  17. SCIENCE • Bodies of Knowledge: Physical, Earth, and Life Science • Taught daily • Labs / activities • Use of scientific method • Tested in 5th grade on FCAT • Consumable books
