Terrorism. By: Hancy K. & Pavi K. What is terrorism? . Terrorism has been a long standing fact of life in certain countries around the world, like Northern Ireland, England, Israel, and Japan. Terrorism is done because of political issues, race issues, and other types of conflicts.

What is terrorism? • Terrorism has been a long standing fact of life in certain countries around the world, like Northern Ireland, England, Israel, and Japan. • Terrorism is done because of political issues, race issues, and other types of conflicts. • For some it’s a crime but for others it’s a holy duty. • Terrorists commit acts of violence to draw the attention of the local population.

History Of terrorism • Terrorism has been in existence for million of years now. • The word terrorism comes from the Reign of Terror in 1793, following the French revolution • In 1950 the rise of guerilla tactics was due to ethnic nationalism • In 1970 terrorism becomes international, the events at the 1972 Munich Olympics were politically motivated • Black September, a Palestinian group kidnapped and killed the Israel athletes preparing to compete. Black September’s political goal was to negotiate the release of Palestinian prisoners

Facts • More than 25 countries have or are developing nuclear, biological and chemical weapons. • Globalization boosted terrorism • Terrorism has always been a business • The illegal/terror economy grows faster then the US economy • 9/11 was one of the greatest insider-trading events in modern history • One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

Types of terrorisms • Nuclear terrorism: attacking nuclear facilities, purchasing nuclear weapons • Ecoterrorsim: sabotage property to inflict economic damage on industries • Cyber terrorism: use information technology to attack civilians, and draw attention to there cause • Bioterrorism: intentional release of toxic biological agents to harm and terrorize civilians • Narcoterrorism: drug trafficking to fund their operations

The intentions of terrorism group A terrorist group commits acts of violence to - • Produce widespread fear • Obtain worldwide, national, or local recognition for their cause by attracting the attention of the media • Harass, weaken, or embarrass government security forces so that the government overreacts and appears repressive • Steal or extort money and equipment, especially weapons and ammunition vital to the operation of their group • Destroy facilities or disrupt lines of communication in order to create doubt that the government can provide for and protect its citizens
