  5. III. Collapsing Morale • 1917: troops & civilians fed up w/ war • Ger. Sending 15 year olds to fight • Mutinies in France • Britain on verge of economic collapse

  6. Russian troops leave to fight in own revolution • Lenin rises to power & gets Russia out of war w/ Treaty of Brest-Litovsk • Germany can now concentrate on western front, ready to launch offensive

Weimar Republic signed armistice on Nov. 11, 1918 Wilson issued 14 Points peace plan (self-determination & League of Nations) U.S. troops provided a morale boost (well fed, energetic, fresh) Ger. Launched a huge offensive (40 miles) but didn’t break through Allies countered & Kaiser William abdicated
