In Turkey, 14 languages face the threat of extinction, among them is Hertevin, spoken in Siirt. As of 2012, only four individuals could converse in this entirely oral language, which lacks written form. The decline of Hertevin mirrors the fate of other languages, such as Cappadocian, historically spoken by Greeks in Cappadocia, who have increasingly adopted Modern Greek since the 1960s. This loss highlights the urgent need to preserve linguistic diversity as many languages vanish without notice.
