  3. Purpose • To present an overview of the NOAA FY 2008 Planning process • To promote discussion on enhanced SAB involvement in the NOAA Planning process

  4. Related Issue • Research Review Team recommendation: To engage better the external research community to ensure understanding of how and when input can be provided to NOAA’s fiscal planning

NOAA Strategic Plan Review Planned Updates for NOAA Strategic Plan 2006 – 2011 • Fine tuning: no wholesale changes • Updates include: • Clearer alignment of NOAA’s Ecosystem Goal to the U.S. Ocean Action Plan • Inclusion of references to public health benefits • Improved presentation of NOAA’s Critical Support Goal

Ongoing efforts to actively engage external partners, including research partners: • Broader planning baseline publicly available • 5-yr Research Plan / 20-yr Research Vision • Observations Architecture documents • Education Plan • FY07 Annual Guidance Memorandum • National Stakeholder Conference with Research Session • Meetings with Key Groups • CI Directors, Sea Grant, CORE, SAB Climate Working Group • More time for external review of the AGM Coordination

  14. Desired Outcomes • SAB feedback on the FY08 Planning process • Plan for SAB participation in the review of NOAA’s draft planning priorities • June 20 – July 1, 2005 • Consider ways to build on successful approach of the SAB’s Climate Working Group
