Sudans Brief History • Sudan is the largest country in Africa • Egypt was colonial master of Sudan for long time • After Suez Canal Project British sent govenor to control their new territory of Egyptian Sudan. • After long hostility between egypt and Britain they finaly agreed to divide Sudan • North was controlled by Egyptian and South by Britain. • On february 2 ,1953 Sudan got it is independence and Ismail Al azhari became new prime minister

  4. Civil war • Sudan suffered seventeen years of civil war during the First Sudanese Civil War (1955–1972) • This led to the Second Sudanese Civil War in 1983. Because of continuing political and military struggles, Sudan was seized in a bloodless coup by colonel Omar al-Bashir in 1989, who thereafter proclaimed himself President of Sudan

Darfur War • The Darfur Conflict was a guerrilla conflict or civil war centered on the Darfur region of Sudan. • It began in February 2003 when the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (SLM/A) and Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) groups in Darfur took up arms, accusing the Sudanese government of oppressing non-Arab Sudanese in favor of Sudanese Arabs. It is also known as the Darfur Genocide • It involved the central government ,Janjaweed, SLM/A and the JEM • There are nearly a hundred thousand casualties • The Sudanese government and the JEM signed a ceasefire agreement in February 2010, with a tentative agreement to pursue further peace

  6. south Sudan referendum • A referendum took place in Southern Sudan from 9 to 15 January 2011, on whether the region should remain a part of Sudan or become independent. • The referendum was one of the consequences of the 2005 Naivasha Agreement between the Khartoum central government and the Sudan People's Liberation Army/Movement • On 7 February 2011, the referendum commission published the final results, with 98.83% voting in favour of independence

  7. NEW BORN COUNTRY • After refendum south Sudan was formed and Salva Bakiira was elected as new president • After a short period south Sudan is in war with it Self • The Hope and expection of the people vanished • Corruption became endemic • Tribal rebellion started

  8. Abyei Conflict • This is Oil rich region • Ngok dinka are the tribe who live there • Misseriya nomadic tribe pass by in search for pasture • North claims that missery people have right to graze their animal there and south claims only Ngok dinka are the owners of that land

  9. Effects Of The War • More than 500,000 deaths due to starvation in Darfur • Many in great risk of diseases , malnutrion • Nearly 2.1 people left homeless

  10. Current issues • Israel bombed army factory in sudan accusing sudan of making nuclear weapon for Iran • South and North both acussing each other of using proxies • China as main oil invester in sudan hoped to play major rule in solving dispute in Abyei region • Coup attempt early in november
