Fort Sumter Important Information • Located – Charleston, South Carolina • Entrance to Charleston’s harbor • Charleston, SC • Most important port city in the South • Without it, Southern economy would fail • Why is Charleston so important to the South? • Allowed the South to trade with other countries and be connected to the rest of the world

  5. Lincoln’s First Day in Office • Fort Sumter is still under Union control • Supplies are low at the fort. Needs to be restocked otherwise the soldiers will have to leave • Lincoln’s big decision – Should he… • Send more supplies to Ft.
