  2. In this section, you’ll learn how to: • Use bullets and numbering • Adjust page settings • Change orientation • Set paper size • Check spelling • View pages • Show/Hide invisible symbols • Change the zoom level • Preview the document • Print a document

  3. Use bullets and numberingApply bullets • Highlight the lines from To: John Smith through Total Number of Pages: 5

  4. Click the icon. The lines should now look like this:

  5. TIP:If you want to just start a new line under the same bullet, use a soft return. Soft returns start a new line instead of a new paragraph. • To do a soft return, place your cursor at the end of a line, hold down the SHIFT key on your keyboard, then press ENTER. • Example: • Paragraph. • New Paragraph. It gets its own bullet. • Paragraph.Soft-returned line beneath paragraph. Since it's in the same paragraph, it doesn't get its own bullet.

  6. Apply numbering 1. Click the icon.

  7. The lines should now look like this:

  8. 2. Click the icon again to change the lines back to bulleted. TIP:Sometimes Word carries over numbering from a previous numbered list into a new list.

  9. To restart numbering, place the cursor in the first line of the numbered list. • On the Menu Bar, click the drop-down arrow beside the icon. • Then click Set Numbering Value.

  10. When the Set Numbering Value window appears, click the Start new list radio button, set the value to 1, then click the button.

  11. Change bullet character 1. On the Menu Bar, click the drop-down arrow beside the icon.

  12. When the menu appears, click the Diamonds bullet. The lines should now look like this: 3. Save the document.

  13. Adjust page settings Set margins 1. Click the Page Layout tab.

  14. 2. On the Menu Bar, click Margins. When the menu appears, click Custom Margins.

  15. When the Page Setup window appears, enter 0.75" for the Top, Bottom, Left and Right margins. 4. Click the button.

  16. Change orientation 1. On the Menu Bar, click Orientation. • When the menu appears, click Landscape. This changes the page orientation to horizontal.

  17. Click Orientation again, then click Portrait in the menu. This will change the page orientation back to vertical.

  18. Set paper size 1. On the Menu Bar, click Size. When the menu appears, click Legal.

  19. Change paper size back to Letter. • Save the document.

  20. Check spelling • Change the words FAX COVER SHEET at the top of the page to read Faxe Cover Sheet. • Click in blank white space on the page. A red squiggly line should appear under the word Faxe.

  21. Click the Review tab. 4. Then on the Menu Bar, click Spelling and Grammar.

  22. The Spelling and Grammar window should appear, with the word Faxe in the top half of the window.

  23. 4. Choose the correct spelling of Fax from the list of suggestions. 4. Click the button.

  24. 5. When the Spell Check Complete window appears, click the button. 6. Save the document.

  25. View pages Employ different page views 1. At the bottom of the screen, click the icon. TIP:If the icon is depressed, you are already in Print Layout View.

  26. Click the icon. TIP:Note that you no longer see the edges of the page.

  27. Different page views There are five views in Microsoft Word: • Print Layout • Full Screen Reading • Web Layout • Outline • Draft

  28. Print Layout View shows not only formatting, but the layout of the document. • Full Screen Reading View makes it easier to read a document page-by-page. • Web Layout View simulates the look of Web pages in a Web browser.

  29. Outline View creates a hierarchy for long documents. • Draft View shows only the content of pages.

  30. Show/Hide invisible symbols • Make sure the Home tab is selected, then click the icon. TIP: Note that symbols representing hard returns, spaces, tab characters and soft returns appear.

  31. The Show/Hide icon The Show/Hide icon displays invisible formatting symbols. It can be very helpful for troubleshooting. Paragraph symbols represent hard returns. The dots between words represent spaces.

  32. Right arrows represent tab characters. Bent arrows represent soft returns. 2. Click the icon again. The symbols should disappear.

  33. Change the Zoom level 1. Click the View tab, then click Zoom.

  34. 2. When the Zoom window appears, click the 200% radio button. Then click the button.

  35. The screen should look like this:

  36. 3. Click Zoom again. When the menu appears, click the Page Width radio button. • Then click the button.

  37. The screen should look like this:

  38. Preview a document • Click the Office button.

  39. 2. When the menu appears, click the Print arrow, then Print Preview.

  40. The screen should look like this:

  41. 2. Click once near the top of the document.

  42. The view should zoom in so the text is legible:

  43. 3. Click on the page again. The view should zoom out:

  44. 4. Click Close Print Preview. 5. Save the document.

  45. Print a document • 1. Click the Office button. When the menu appears, click Print.

  46. The Print window should appear. Notice the options available: 2. Click the button. 3. Save and close the document Fax Cover Sheet.
