  1. Day 6 Reflecting on the week – planning for the future

  2. Key steps of the co-design process • Introducing concepts to key stakeholders • Developing prototype methodologies and relevant systems and skills (co-design/training workshop)… • …testing them in practice • Capturing lessons • Reflection workshop to share experiences and refine methodologies • Scale-up, expand application • Contribute to wider evidence base for changing crisis response (on-going) now! Sept-Dec 18 Jan ? 2019 Feb? 2019 2019 onwards

  3. Community–based information, mobilisation & learning systems Collective emergency micro-grants Rapid provision of relevant emergency skills up-grading: - context specific tech & management - psycho-social response - conflict analysis & resolution An emerging sclr practice Changes in Institutional roles, relationships, and systems Autonomous self-help by crisis affected people Support for locally-led longer term processes to address root causes of vulnerability, & mentoring Connecting, networking, alliances (inc. private sector) Locally-relevant coordination services (horizontal & vertical)

  4. Reflecting on the week – planning for the future sclr is introducing some new approaches to how we respond to crises. From your perspective: • which are the most significant and interesting of these new ways of working which you might want to include in your pilots? ….or Reflection on the week – the emerging practice: strengths, weaknesses, uncertainties, priorities for testing (5m), Group work (15 mins), Plenary feedback and discussion (25m)

  5. Planning the pilot • When? - Develop a broad time line • Where, and with whom? – identify townships, or camps or… • Starting the introductory meetings and palc process – who might be involved, how will you do it? • What size of micro-grants do you want to try and how much of your budget will you allocate for micro-grants? • What additional training might you be enabling – are you putting aside some budget for that? • Develop an approximate budget • Identify additional support needed • Agree on next steps

  6. Example of a draft time-line • Example of a draft action-plan? • Example of a draft budget • Example of a draft report

  7. Adapting OD and relationships To maximise the chances for these new approaches to work, do you think any changes might be needed in: a) the internal management style and systems of your own organisation? b) the working relationship between DCA and local NGOs? c) the working relationship between local NGOs and communities?

  8. Capturing the lessons from testing sclr approach in practice 1. Recording what was done (partner reports) 2. Did the pilots generate any of the anticipated benefits that were identified during the workshop)? If so how/why? If not, why? - And were there any additional advantages? 3. Did the pilots manage to overcome the anticipated challenges? If so how/why? If not, why? - and were there any additional problems? • What ideas for improving? • What can we learn about internal OD and relationships for sclr?

  9. Post pilot reflection workshop to share experiences, refine working methodologies and plan for scaling up

  10. How do you think about the duration of the workshop? Was it ok, or too long or too short> too long or too short? If too long/if too short? If you think it was too long, what to do?   The workshop covered the following main sessions (see box below). Which of the these score 3 (they were most interesting for you), which ones scored 2 (they were quite interesting) and which ones score 1 (they were less interesting for you): • Reasons for sclr • Palc process • Micro-grant steps and systems • Supporting local level learning • When things go wrong • Demand-led Skills training and capacity building • Psychosocial • Supporting local responses to conflict situations • Institutional changes With what was developed in the workshop, do you feel confident now to start supporting others to start sclr processes Were the handouts sufficient and clear – or do we need to improve (if so how)? If you have any other comments, observations or advice please add.

  11. Thank God….. … the workshop is over!

  12. Evaluating the workshop 8 quick questions – 10 minutes of your feedback
