  1. Bell Ringer • Find the bell ringer on second page with the outline of the car. • Fill in some roadblocks you might experience while driving a car on a trip. • Come up with at least 5!

  2. 1.02 Roadblocks to Personal Development Teen Living Cassie Spurrier

  3. What is a Roadblock? • Anything that interferes with the attainment of your personal goals.

  4. Imagine you are driving a car down the road of life… • What are some things that can happen to your car? • Traffic • Litter • Other Drivers • Engine Trouble • Debris in road • Running out of gas • Getting Lost

  5. Some Roadblocks are Permanent • Poor Health • Birth Defects • Read Story and Show Clip • Death of a family member • Sudden change in location • Divorce Some Roadblocks come out of nowhere!

  6. Some Roadblocks WE MAKE • Drug Abuse, Alcoholism, Addictions • Lacking self esteem can lead to emotional dependency…which is where you rely on someone else for how you feel! • This can lead to severe depression. • Love yourself the most!

  7. What can you do to avoid, alter, or change roadblocks in your path? • Set realistic goals for yourself. • Identify sources of stress (and remember: stress is caused by how we react to things and not by things themselves) • Find ways to deal with them • Reach out to others for support (friends, parents, counselors, self help groups)

  8. What can you do to avoid, alter, or change roadblocks in your path? • Solve problems rationally and not IMPULSIVELY • Would I want this if no one else were doing it? • What would I lose? • What would _____________ think of my decision? • Fill in the blank with a significant person or ideal • Build your self esteem! People who feel good about themselves make better decisions. Focus on the positive, hold on to beliefs, and face problems without trying to escape them. If you don’t address it, it will not go away!
