LISTENING GUIDELINES • Treat the speaker courteously.
Note transition words and phrases to help you follow the speaker’s logic.
Try to separate important from unimportant information by using cues in the beginning of a presentation.
If the rules allow, interrupt (politely) to verify your understanding.
If the rules allow, don’t be afraid to ask a question about a word or term you didn’t understand.
If you don’t understand a subject, try not to think too much about it while listening.
Listen with pencil in hand, taking detailed notes but also listening to the general flow.
