GEAR UP TN • Annual Performance Report • Submitted APR on April 13 • Reporting period: March 1, 2010 - February 28, 2011 • Served 6,164 students in the nine GEAR UP TN counties • 11th and 12th grade students received direct services this academic year • GEAR UP TN cohort are current seniors • Highlight grant management and administration, statewide initiatives, and direct service implementation

APR Highlights: Statewide Services • Expansion of statewide initiatives • College Application Week • Increased from 90 to 120 schools and organizations participating • 61 percent reporting over 5,200 applications submitted • CollegeforTN.org • 44,991 new student accounts in reporting period • Over 275,000 total student accounts • Over 264new educator accounts in reporting period • Over 1967 total educator accounts • Public Outreach Campaign • Increase in reach and frequency of media campaign

APR Highlights: Direct Services • Students • Increased 11th and 12th grade participation: • 2,135 students participated in ACT prep • 547 students are enrolled in dual enrollment • 2,397 students attended financial aid and college application workshops • 2,908 students visited a college campus or attended a college fair • Increased 11th and 12th grade enrollment in advanced classes: • 1,281 students enrolled in advance math • 546 student increase over last year • 1,063 students enrolled in advanced English/Language Arts • 186 student increase over last year • 611 students enrolled in advanced science courses • 101 student increase over last year

APR Highlights: Direct Services • Teachers • 607 11th and 12th grade teachers participated in GEAR UP TN sponsored professional development • 91 % of all GEAR UP TN teachers • Every GEAR UP TN high school counselor participated in at least one workshops • Parents • 763 participants in financial aid and college application workshops • 1,120 attended parent-student-coordinator meetings

APR Highlights: Financial Aid • As of Feb. 28th 50% cohort students completed a FAFSA • Bridge Incentive Award • 693 students received the Bridge Incentive Award totaling $455,986 • 349 students attended a 4-year institution totaling $243,600 • 306 students attended a community college totaling $192,525 • 38 students attended a Tennessee Technology Center totaling $19,861 • GEAR UP TN Scholarship • Intent to Enroll form open to cohort students on May 1 • $1,000 award to cohort students enrolled in a Pell eligible institution • Every eligible student may receive an award in year 1 • Subsequent awards dispersed pending fund availability

Summer Highlights and Projects • College Access Challenge Grant APR by May 10 • U.S. DOE GEAR UP grant competition • Expected to open mid-May • Partnering with state agencies, LEAs, non-profit and community based organizations • CACG College Mentor Corps launch June 7 - 8 • GEAR UP TN Sustainability Summit June 8 - 9 • Partnering with Nashville State Community College and the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence
