  6. Revelation • The women is a “religious system”

  7. (Rev 2:20-24) Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works. But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden.

  19. Connecting the women with Today

  20. Revelation • Rome referred to as Babylon (18:21)

  21. S M Y r N A • In his book, Catholicism and Fundamentalism, Catholic apologist Karl Keating writes: "Babylon is a code word for Rome. It is used that way six times in the last book of the Bible [so he acknowledges that the woman in Rev 17 is Rome!] • Sibylling Oracles (5, 159Q, the Apocalypse of Baruch (ii, 1), and Esdras (3:1). Eusebius Pamphilius, writing about 303, noted that ...Peter ...referred to [Rome] figuratively as Babylon [in 1 Pe 5:13]." The Bible often addresses a person or city under another name. For example, Jerusalem is called "Sodom and Egypt" (Rev 11:8) and Satan is addressed as the king of Babylon in Isaiah 14 and as the prince of Tyrus in Ezekiel 28.

  22. (1Pe 5:13) The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son.

  23. Revelation • A city on 7 hills • (Rev 17:9)

  24. S M Y r N A • Babylon was not built on seven hills, nor does it meet any of the other identifying criteria. Rome, however, was and has universally been known as the city of seven hills. The Catholic Encyclopedia states: "It is within the city of Rome, called the city of seven hills, that the entire area of Vatican State proper is now confined."

  25. Above is a an ancient Roman coin (a Sestertius) in the collection of the British Museum, minted at Tarraco in 71 A.D. during the reign of Vespasian (69-79 A.D.), declaring him to be the PontifexMaximus (a title assumed by the papacy), which depicts the city of Rome as both the goddess Dea-Roma seated on 7 hills, and a she-wolf suckling Romulus and Remus (just above the R in ROMA).

  26. Revelation • A city of purple and scarlet • (Rev 17:4)

  27. Here you see the Pope wearing scarlet and an Archbishop wearing reddish-purple. Pope Benedict in scarlet

  28. On the12th of March 2000, during the Papal Apology Mass, the pope and other members of the Roman Catholic priesthood wore various shades of violet/purple because it also occurred during the Catholic festival of Lent, when the color of purple is traditionally worn.

  29. Priests of the Catholic Church regularly wear red vestments on Good Friday, Palm Sunday, Pentecost, Birthday Feasts of the Apostles and Evangelists, and the Feasts of Martyrs. Purple vestments are worn on Advent, Lent, and at Funerals, although other colors are optional on some of those days. Other approved colors are white, green, black and rose and gold. A distinctive shade of bright orange-red designated officially by the

  31. Revelation • A city of decked with gold and precious stone and pearls • (Rev 17:4)

  32. The most respected of the ecclesiastical symbols, the tiara, or triregno, is also a symbol of the pope's authority over the Church. No one knows for certain when the tiara originated, and it has undergone many changes since it first appeared at the Papal Court. The tiara comprises three separate crowns, or diadems. The bottom crown appeared in the ninth century as ornamentation at the base of the mitre.    When pontiffs assumed the temporal role of sovereign princes, they further adorned the base decorations with the jeweled crown of the princes of the time. The second crown was added by Pope Boniface VIII in A.D. 1298 to represent his spiritual dominion. By A.D. 1315, the triregno appears in the documentation of the Papal Treasury.

  33. THE CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA STATES: • “The pectoral cross (suspended by chain around the neck of abbots, bishops, archbishops, cardinals, and the Pope) should be made of Gold and…decorated with gems” • Robert Broderick, ed, 466

  34. Clarence Larkin wrote: “Of the different articles specified for the Pope to wear when installed into office five are scarlet. A vest covered with perils, and a mitre, adorned with gold and precious stone was to be worn Clarence Larkin, Dispensational Truth 1918, pg141

  35. Revelation • A city or woman with a golden cup (chalice in her hand • (Rev 17:4)

  36. Five hundred diamonds encrust this golden chalice, a gift of Sultan Abdul Medji for Pope Pius IX’s election, and first used by Pius IX on December 8th, 1854, at the Mass proclaiming the Immaculate Conception of Mary

  37. This is the reverse side of a papal medal minted by Pius XI in 1929 to commemorate the Lateran Treaty, which restored Papal sovereignty and made Vatican City an independent state. The sunburst wafer of the Eucharist appears in the sky above the Lateran and St. Peter's basilicas, over the cup of the Mass

  38. THE CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA STATES: “The Golden Chalice is the most important of the sacred vessels”

  39. In 1825 Pope Leo XII, made a medal with his image on one side, and on the other side, a woman with a cup… with the inscription “Sedet Super Universum” Which is Latin for “the whole world is her seat” (C.f. Rev17.1 and 15)
