  2. Project Overview PROMOTE THE VOTE! Second graders are working with Reid Wilson, a senior at North High School, to promote the vote for our upcoming presidential election in November! We have recorded a PSA at QMIX and submitted Letters to the Editor at The Republic. This week, students will finish promoting the vote for next week’s election and reflect on their work for the project, as well as our field trip from last week.

Skills and Standards 2.2.5- Retell with facts 2.1.6-Fluency and accuracy 2.2.3- Author’s purpose 2.2.10- confirm predictions Reading “My Name is Yoon” Coming to America Materials Needed Treasures Reading Book Noise Level 1 1. Monday • Open your reading text to page 113 and discuss the Talk About It Question “Why do you think many people move to America?” • Then read, “My New Home” to learn your new vocabulary words on pages 114 and 115. 2. Tuesday • Read the story, “My Name is Yoon” together as a group. Discuss the vocabulary as you read. Identify the characters, setting, and main idea. 3. Wednesday 4. Thursday • Finish reading “My Name is Yoon” and complete and turn in your comprehension packet on author’s purpose and predictions. • If you finish early, you may play the “Making Predictions” game at your station! Five examples of community leaders and their role or job. • 2. Your favorite part of our field trip. • 3. How you helped “Promote the Vote” in Columbus. • 4. Five of our vocabulary words from our project (see list in binder) • 5. A description of your favorite book about leaders or the election. • 6. Three or more pictures • 7. Complete sentences and correct spelling • 8. A design and an organized layout. • 9. Self-Selected Reading/Accelerated Reader Standards RF2.4 Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension Noise Level 0 Choose a library book or a book of choice that you have not read. Be sure you picked a book that you can read alone. Silently read . After you finish your book, write the name of the book in your Data Binder. Be sure to fill in the information about your book in your binder. If you can answer all the questions in your Data Binder, get your laptop and log on to AR to take your test.
