  2. Therearemanytypes of thetheatremethodology.Inthispresentationwewilltrytoexplain “drama therapy” and “Boal’s Forum andImageTheatre”.

  3. DRAMA THERAPY

  4. Drama therapy is definedbytheNationalAssociationfor Drama Therapy as "thesystematicandintentionaluse of drama/theaterprocesses, products, andassociationstoachievethetherapeuticgoals of symptomrelief, emotionalandphysicalintegrationandpersonalgrowth."

  5. Drama therapy is an activeapproachthathelpstheclienttell his or her storytosolve a problem, achieve a catharsis, extendthedepthandbreadth of innerexperience, understandthemeaning of images, andstrengthentheabilitytoobservepersonalroleswhileincreasingflexibilitybetweenroles.

  6. Thecontinuum of Embodiment, Projectionand Role play is a guide not only in howwe organize sessions, but in howweunderstandthechild’splayandneeds.

  7. EMBODİMENT PLAY Embodimentplay is described as playthatexplorestheworldthroughthesenses. Usingtouch, smellandmovementtoexploreenvironments, body boundariesandspace. This is consideredthefirstdevelopmentalphase.

EmbodimentTechniques: • gross body movementinvolvingthewhole body • fine body movementwithdifferent body parts • sensorymovementinvolvingtextures, sound, taste, smellandsight • singinggameswhich name body parts as theyaretouched • rhythmicmovementanddance • swordplayandwrestling • creativeideas of moving as monsters, aliens, mice……… • storieswithsoundsandmovement

  9. PROJECTİVE PLAY Projectiveplay, involvestheworld of makebelieve, symbolicorpretendplay. One of thegoals of thisphase is tomake sense of the self in socialworld, differentiatingbetweenwhat is meandwhat is other. Projectiveplay is oftenfacilitatedwiththeuse of puppets, art work, stories, smallworldwork, masksandplaywithobjects.

ProjectiveTechniques: • playwithsubstance: sand, water, fingerpaint, clay, Plasticine • playwithpictures: crayons, paints, drawing, collagewithvariedmedia • playwithbricksandcounters: patterns, constructions, 'allfalldown' • playwithtoys: sandtraystories, sculpts • playwithscenes: dollshouse, puppets (making of puppetstoo) • playwithnaturalmedia: pebbles, bark, twigs, leaves

  11. ROLE PLAY Itis in thisstagethattheindividualbeginstoexploreanddevelopsocialskills, expandingsocialrepertories, identitiesanddevelopingempathy. At thisphaseplayand drama meet. Duringthislastphase of development drama games, role plays, improvisationsanddramaticplayarealltoolsthatareusedtoassisttheindividual in theirdiscoveries.

Role Techniques: • usesimpleroleswithsinglefeelings: theangryperson, thesadpersonandmaybedrawthefaces of thepeople • createanimalcharactersthatinteract • usefavouritestoriestoenacttogether • usethedressingupboxtoallow a dramatisedstorytoemerge • use a mask as a startingpointfor a story • usethe idea of writing a tvscripttogetherandthenenact it • useideasthathavebeengeneratedthroughprojectiveplay

Competence in EPR is essentialfor a child'smaturation: • Itforms a basisforthegrowth of identityandindependence • Itestablishesthe 'dramatised body' i.e. the body which can create • Itstrengthensandfurtherdevelopstheimagination • Itcontributesto a child'sresiliencethrough 'ritualand risk' • Itenables a childtomovefrom 'everydayreality' to 'dramaticreality' andbackagain, appropriately • Itfacilitates problem solvingandconflictresolution • Itprovides role playanddramaticplaywhich in turncreateflexibility • Itgives a childtheexperienceandskillsto be part of thesocialworld.

  14. Augusto BOAL Augusto Boal (16 March 1931 - 2 May 2009)wasborn in Braziland is themostfamousforcreatingtheconcept of “Theatre of theOppressed”. Boalseestheatre as a weaponandbelievesthatchange is imminent in theaudience.

  15. TheTheatre of theOppressed, especiallyForumandImageTheatreseemsto be muchmoreappropriateforourtargetgroup.

  16. Augusto BOAL’s TECHNİQUES FORUM THEATRE Forum Theatre is an interactive form of theatre that encourages audience interaction and explores different options for dealing with a problem or issue. Forum Theatre is often used by socially excluded and disempowered groups. IMAGE THEATRE Spectatorsareaskedtoexpressviews on themes of commoninterestusingthebodies of theothergroupmemberstovisuallysculpttheirviewpoint. Theseimagesarethendiscussedamongthegroup.
