  1. Monday

  2. Bell-ringer Make a prediction about how heart rate, breathing rate, and exercise are related.

  3. Chap 5 Essential Question • How do our organ systems work together to help maintain our body’s internal balance (homeostasis)?

  4. OBJECTIVES Students will be able to……. • Design an experiment to investigate the relationship between pulse rate & breathing rate at different levels of exercise.

  5. AGENDA • Discuss BR & • Develop hypothesis • Construct data table • Identify variables & controls • Design experiment • Wrap Up

  6. Reminders • Assignment packet & Bell-ringer/summary sheet collected Friday. Turn in if you haven’t done so! • Get checked off on your binder & lab notebook

  7. DIRECTIONS • With your table team, complete #4 & 5 in your lab notebook. • Silently read Protocol for Conducting a Step Test on p179—181. Write down questions you have in your lab notebook. • With your table team complete #7 p181 in your lab notebook.

  8. DIRECTIONS 4. With your table team, complete #8 on p181 in your lab notebook. 5. With your table team, complete #9 on p181. Write your procedure in your lab notebook.

  9. HOMEWORK • Finish writing your procedure for the experiment in your lab notebook.

  10. Tuesday

  11. Bell-ringer Take out the lab procedure you finished for homework last night. Identify the independent and dependent variables, the control, and the constants for your experimental design. Homework Being Checked Now: Lab Procedure with at least 8-10 steps in your lab journal.

  12. Chap 5 Essential Question • How do our organ systems work together to help maintain our body’s internal balance (homeostasis)?

  13. OBJECTIVES Students will be able to……. Follow your procedure to conduct an experiment to determine how the respiratory and circulatory systems interact in helping to maintain homeostasis.

  14. AGENDA • Discuss BR • Review Lab Procure/Questions • Conduct Experiment/Test • Graph data • Write MELCon lab conclusion • Exit Ticket

  15. Reminders • Assignment packet & Bell-ringer/summary sheet collected Friday. Turn in if you haven’t done so! • Get checked off on your binder & lab notebook

  16. TEAM WORK

  17. SUMMARY Examine your team’s data and answer the following questions: • What interactions did you notice between the circulatory system and the respiratory system during exercise? • How do you think these interactions help maintain your body’s homeostasis? HOMEWORK Write your MELCon lab conclusion in your lab journal.

  18. Thursday

  19. Bell-ringer When most people exercise or do physical work their pulse and breathing rate increases. Why do you think this happens? Write a possible explanation. Think about what might be happening between your respiratory and circulatory system. Homework Being Checked Now: Line graph (5pts) & MELCon Lab conclusion (10 pts).

  20. Chap 5 Essential Question • How do our organ systems work together to help maintain our body’s internal balance (homeostasis)?

  21. OBJECTIVES Students will be able to……. Prepare questions about a text and then take turns leading a class discussion of them.

  22. AGENDA • Discuss BR • Read & generate questions • Play ReQuest (class discussion) • Exit Ticket

  23. CLASS DISCUSSION

  24. SUMMARY • Did the game of ReQuest help you in anyway to understand the text? How did it help you? • If no, how would you change the activity to help you better understand the text? HOMEWORK Answer Analysis questions 1 & 2 on p182 on separate sheet of paper.

  25. Friday

  26. Bell-ringer Read the 1st paragraph under “On a Scale of 1-14” on p182 and answer the following questions: • Besides temperature, oxygen, and carbon dioxide level what other condition must be balanced in your body? • How does breathing affect this balance? • Why is acidity level of your blood considered a regulatory signal? Homework Check: Analysis questions 1 & 2 p182

  27. Chap 5 Essential Question • How do our organ systems work together to help maintain our body’s internal balance (homeostasis)?

  28. OBJECTIVES Students will be able to……. • Set up a scientific investigation that will help demonstrate how our body can maintain its pH level (homeostasis) despite the all the foods and beverages we put into our body.

  29. AGENDA • Review HW questions • Complete “Regulating pH Lab” day 1 • Exit Ticket

  30. INDEPENDENT WORK

  31. End of Week Summary Write a 3-5 sentence summary of everything you learned this week. Homework Finish Lab Day 1 (steps 1-9)

  32. Friday

  33. Bell-ringer Read “Stepping up the Pace” on p177 and respond to the following prompt: Maintaining an average core temperature of 37 C (98.6 F) involves only responses of the circulatory system. True or False. If False correct the statement to make it true.

  34. Chap 5 Essential Question • How do our organ systems work together to help maintain our body’s internal balance (homeostasis)?

  35. OBJECTIVES Students will be able to……. • Pick out the most important points from a science essay to determine how the body coordinates to maintain homeostasis.

  36. AGENDA • Read “Careful Coordination” p231-236. • Share VIP’s with partner. • Share VIP’s with small group. • Share VIP’s with class. • Pick out the MVIP.

  37. Summary Of the VIP’s the class chose, which one do you think is most important? In other words which one do you think best summarizes the title “Careful Coordination?” Why did you choose this one as your MVIP? Homework Bin: • Assignment packet stapled together in order with cover sheet on top. • Bell-ringer/Summary sheet
