Shock and Fainting • Occurs when only small amount of blood circulates to the brain • Have person lie on their back with feet raised. • Make sure person is warm. • Do not give person anything to eat or drink, they may choke. • Call an ambulance.
Sprains & Strains • Causes are falls, twisting of limb, sports injuries and over-exertion. • Sprain • Overstretching or tearing a ligament, a tendon or muscle. • Strain • Muscle or tendon is overstretched or overexerted.
R.I.C.E • Rest – do not move or straighten the injured area. • Immobilize – Stabilize the injured area in the position it was found. • Cold – Fill a plastic bag or wrap ice with a damp cloth and apply ice to the injured area for periods of 20 minutes. • Elevate – Do NOT elevate the injured part if it causes more pain.
