  1. Social Media • Bands and artists can take advantage of online tools to promote their singles, albums, tours, merchandise, or just general news. It’s something that can be used for just about anything. • There are so many different platforms whereby artists can do this, for example, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. • It’s a great way of exposing themselves. They can set up accounts on many different sites to ensure they can benefit from as much exposure as possible.

  2. Instagram We can keep the audience updated in the format of pictures and videos. It’s instant and we can see who has liked what we’ve posted. We can also keep track of our followers and who we follow. Beyoncé used Instagram as a means to announce the release of her 2013 self-titled album so it is a very impactful means of communication with fans. It includes a bio where we can put important information, for example, closer to the time when we’re about to release the music video, we could include the date that this is going to happen. Instagram recently increased the amount of time a video can last (30 seconds is what it used to be, now a minute). This is a bonus to us too.

  3. Twitter Twitter, in essence, is one of the quickest, snappiest forms of communicating over social media. It’s like a mini blog, whereby you have 160 characters to write something. People can retweet (put your tweet onto their profile – some tweets have the potential to go viral) or like your tweets. It’s a good platform for putting up pictures as well. We could quite simply tweet: ‘off filming today’ or like the screenshot shows, tweet images of things we’re getting up to or recent work. We can also, similarly to Instagram, include a bio telling the public who we are and what we do.

  4. YouTube YouTube is simply a platform that bands and artists can use to upload videos to. As you can see from the screenshot, we have included the preliminary (which gives our audience a taste for what is to come) and other examples of work which are going to eventually lead us to our final video. Any rough cuts or videos of us discussing filming will also be uploaded to our YouTube account. This is a vital piece of social media as it will be what we upload our final music video to. In the meantime, it’s important to keep our audience up to date with what we are getting up to and YouTube, like Instagram and Twitter, is a helpful source to enable us to do this.
