    2. How The Guide Was Developed Quality Council members reviewed deficiencies identified at CFR 483.15(a) during the six month period of August 2002 through February 2003. Members then chose five areas of potential non-compliance for review and guide development.

    3. Focus Of The Guide The guide focuses on the following areas: Respecting care needs Maximizing the dining experience Living in the secured unit Participating in activities Respecting the residents room & personal space

    4. Regulation Comparison The guide also compares/ contrasts the requirements for resident dignity to the following areas: Privacy and Confidentiality Abuse Activities of Daily Living

    5. Reasonable Person Concept Used to assess residents who cannot speak for themselves. Surveyors assess how most people would react to a particular situation. Used to determine compliance with more esoteric concepts, such as dignity.
