  8. NEW DEVELOPMENTS Setting up a network of 35 AWS with a on-line monitoring system by JICA 2007/2008

  9. NEW DEVELOPMENTS • 4 m US$ has been allocated to procure a Doppler Radar by the Sri Lanka Government • Wind profiler is planed to procure during the year 2007 • Up grading of GTS to 64 kbps by US AID

  10. POSSIBLE CONTRIBUTION TO MAHASRI • Synoptic date at selected stations at WMO standard hours • Upper Air observations • Radar wind • Radio Sond Observations • Temperature • Pressure • Humidity

  11. FUTURE NEEDS AND PROPOSALS • Real time rainfall monitoring system • Capacity development in NWP in particular to predict heavy rainfall events • Satellite Imagery receiving system • Early warning dissemination system in vulnerable areas
