  1. Interpreting Pocahontas Initial Task: • Take out last night’s homework on 2 interpretations of John Smith. Compare your answers to your team members. • At the bottom of the worksheet, write down one or more new things that you might add to our “working definition” of Pocahontas. • What’s a “working definition?” When a definition is not fully clear or proven, it is “working” or we are “working” at clearly defining or proving. For instance, the definition of Pocahontas we came up with yesterday.

  2. Thursday’s Agenda: • Review worksheet on interpretations of John Smith • Edit “Defining Pocahontas” list on wiki. • Discuss following vocab words: • Evidence • Endnotes • Primary Sources • Complete “Agree/Disagree” • Read “Information about the Life of Pocahontas” • Detect bias, asking clarifying questions. Today’s Objectives and Goals: Identify and understand the use of evidence and sources in scholarly papers. Compare and analyze different interpretations of “fact” or history. Detect bias and loaded language within primary documents. Consider historic events within the context of contemporary times.

  3. What’s in store?!? Homework: Read The Pocahontas Myth – from www.powhatan.org/pocc.html (circle where you need clarifications and put a “?” next to confusions). Due Monday, October 5th. In Class Monday: Get in gear for some blogging and analysis!!!
