  2. Dates of existence • Some believe the Zhou dynasty lasted from 1046-221 B.C., but the true dates are unknown.

  3. Leaders • There were many leaders of the Zhou dynasty, but the most famous leader was King Wu.

  4. Achievements • The Zhou dynasty introduced the ideas of Confucius, who started Confucianism. • Created many advanced agricultural techniques. • The discovery or iron deposits created more advanced technology and ended the need for bronze.

  5. Decline • The decline of the Zhou dynasty was mainly caused by the corruption of the government. • In 841 B.C., a rebellion was created and the drove out the last emperor of the Zhou dynasty. • Emperor Li Wang was cruel and self-conceded. • This is what caused people to make a rebellion.

  6. Mandate of Heaven • The Zhou had used the Mandate of Heaven to explain to the Shang how the gods had lost favor in them. • The Mandate of Heaven remained in Chinese history and religion.

  7. Warring States • The Warring States period was when the 8 warring states were all fighting to keep or gain power. • The 8 warring states are Qin, Chu, Qi, Yan, Han, Wei, Yue, and Zhao. • This was the period in which the Zhou dynasty had ended.

  8. Great Wall • The Zhou had started the Great Wall and other states had added to the wall while others repaired it. • It was made to protect from enemy states. • It was not called the Great Wall until it was connected to the Qin dynasty.
