Venn Diagram • In groups of three complete the Venn diagram about different software • Use the web links and your own searches to help • Write in features of the software and where they are similar where they overlap
Operating Systems • Most important software • Manages process such as memory • Needed to run programs • Connects the hardware with the software • Gives the computer a graphical user interface (GUI) to help use it
Utility Software • Software that does one or two simple tasks • Will aid the computer by saving memory or keeping it safe • Examples are zipping files, anti-viruses, back up programs and file sorting
Application Software • Applications are programs that do multiple things • They are often bought to do specific tasks • You can create save files with them • They do things like word processing, images editing and calculations • On mobile devices they are called apps
Software Task • Use your Venn diagram and the Internet to create a presentation explaining what software does. You should… • Explain what Operating systems do • Explain what Utility software does • Explain what Applications do • Use images to break up the text • Give at least two examples of each type of software
Peer Assessment • Look at your partners software presentation • Is the information correct? • Can they add any more detail?
