  3. Geospatial Information forHomeland Security Annex • PURPOSE:This Annex to the title MOU describes the partnership and responsibilities of the participating organizations to create and maintain geospatial information needed to support homeland security. The participating organizations include the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA), the Department of Defense, the United States Geological Survey (USGS), and the Department of the Interior. This Annex describes how these organizations will cooperate to create and provide a compatible and complementary, nationally consistent set of geospatial data and information for homeland security. • The intersection of USGS' domestic mission for geospatial information and remote sensing, NGA’s mission in support of national security objectives makes the USGS-NGA partnership critical to providing comprehensive geospatial information to the federal, state, local and military organizations responsible for homeland security missions.

  4. Program Partners Working Group Purpose • The Program Partners Working Group (PPWG) will develop, monitor, and execute a plan implementing the Geospatial Information forHomeland Security Annex to the Memorandum of Understanding Between the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA), the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) that was signed and became effective on May 19, 2006.

  5. Partners in the PPWG • This partnership among USGS and NGA will be further extended to include the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as a participating partner on the PPWG to further coordinate execution of the responsibilities that the organizations share, or contribute toward, with the common goal of providing geospatial information for homeland security. Henceforth, reference to the “partners” will include USGS, NGA and DHS. With the agreement of the partners, other organizations may be invited to participate in the PPWG as non-voting members.
