  3. Reminder - Sand Analysis Shape – how round sand particles are (p.34) Sorting – how well sand has been separated by size (p.34) Size – using the Wentworth scale (p.35)

  4. Sand #1 - Beach Sand Characteristics: - Well rounded - Well sorted - May contain shell or coral fragments - Sometimes look polished Sand travels far from source

  5. Sand #2 – Mountain Stream Sand Characteristics: - Poorly sorted - Not well rounded (angular) - Lots of different particle sizes - Usually many different colors Sand has not traveled very far

  6. Sand #3 – Dune Sand Characteristics: - Frosted or pitted appearance - May have flat sides - Well sorted Sand is transported by wind, giving it a unique appearance
