  2. Her childhood. “She had a decent childhood, despite segregation. She was raised by her mom, Leona Edwards McCauley, and maternal grandparents, Sylvester & Rose Edwards. Her dad, Jim McCauley, left for good when Rosa was 5 and Sylvester was 3. She never saw him again until she and Raymond were married.”2. 5

  3. Where did she live? “Rosa and her husband resided at 634 Rosa L Parks Avenue (Cleveland Court Apartments) in Montgomery, Alabama”1. 1.

  4. Why is Rosa Parks famous? 5. ”On December 1st, 1955, Rosarefused to give up her seat on the bus to a white man during the segregation in Montgomery, Alabama. Her actions sparked the 'bus boycott', in which black people refused to use the buses until they were made equal for white and black people.”1

  5. Rosa Park’s siblings. “Rosa Parks had a younger brother, Sylvester McCauley. He was born August 20, 1915 and died of cancer November 27, 1977”4 4

  6. How old was Rosa when she died? Rosa Parks was 92 years old. 5

  7. How did she die? “In 2004, Rosa was diagnosed with progressive dementia and died the following year on October 24, 2005. Three days after Rosa's death, all of the city buses in Montgomery and Detroit reserved their front seats with black ribbons in her honor, and remained this way until Rosa was put into her final resting place. The journey to the cemetery was a long one, one that recapped everything she stood for and believed in her whole life.”2. 5
