  2. Inter-Agency Task Team on Children and HIV and AIDS BACKGROUND • The UNAIDS Committee of Cosponsoring Organizations (CCO) called for the creation of an inter agency task team (IATT) on Orphans and other Vulnerable Children in March 2001 • UNICEF was requested to convene a meeting with UNAIDS cosponsors and key partner organizations to discuss how to ensure that more orphans and other vulnerable children receive protection, care and support • To better reflect the challenges facing orphans and other children made vulnerable by AIDS, the IATT members agreed in 2004 to change the name from OVC to children and HIV and AIDS. It also decided to expand its membership beyond the UN • This IATT presently comprises representatives from UN, NGOs, donors, academic institutions and other organisations that play a significant role in the international response to children affected by HIV and AIDS

  3. Inter-Agency Task Team on Children and HIV and AIDS PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF WORK • The IATT will provide a forum for supporting a coordinated, accelerated and expanded evidence based response to protect and promote the rights of children affected by HIV and AIDS • The work of the IATT will be guided by recommendations from the Global Partners Forum • The IATT will work closely with other IATTs e.g. PMTCT, Education and Young People • Link closely with work of Regional Inter-Agency Task Teams (RIATTs)

Since the GPF 2008 • Steering committee meeting held in December 2008 • Discussion on reviewing working groups in light of new GPF communique and recommendations • Decision taken to reformulate working groups • Working groups decreased from 7 to 4 • Decision that IATT must look at how to take evidence to action as a priority based on GPF recommendations
