  2. Explanation of papers • Proofreading errors-papers were not polished, • Misspelled words, awkward sentences, lacked revision • Improper Citation • Lacked engagement with either research or a solid close reading of O’Brien’s book—lack of specific quotes or adept paraphrasing of outside research. • Didn’t meet 4-6 page limit or had an under-developed argument. • Dropped quotes • Did not use at least 4 sources in the actual paper.

  3. Upcoming dates • Ideas posted to BB – 3/29 • Proposal due—4/5 • Rough draft and peer review (creative version) – 4/12 • Conferences 4/13 and 4/14 • Final due and in-class presentations (Creative & Reflective component) –4/19

  4. Proposal : • Include an alphabet draft or “shitty first draft”-500 words • Indicate which genre you are planning to revise this draft into. • Provide 3 sources with a summary of how they relate to your memoir. What larger themes do they touch on? What other conversations does this apply to? Who is your audience and how does your research illuminate your audience’s concerns?

  5. Definition of Memoir • Autobiographical writing • Captures certain highlights or meaningful moments in one’s past • Contemplation of the meaning of that event at the time of the writing of the memoir • Much more emotional and connects the writer to someone or something that had and impact on their life

  6. Characteristics • Focus on a brief period of time or series of related events • Narrative structure (storytelling elements like setting, plot, imager, characterization, foreshadowing/flashback, and irony and symbolism • Retrospective • Fictional quality • Higher emotional level/more personal reconstruction of the events and their impact

How believable is this piece? • What does impression does readers with, what last message?
